What else to expect from housing in 2031.

No, you won’t be living in a spaceship like the Jetsons. Instead, prepare yourself for:

Sustainability – BASIX is only going to get bigger. Costs may actually decrease, as more and more estates include recycled water supplies for outside and laundry plumbing (eliminating the need for a water tank for each dwelling), but new homes will have to continue to find ways to be more energy and water efficient.

Smaller homes on smaller lots – City of Cities predicts that by 2031 almost 30% of homes will be single households, in large part due to the 700,000 more people aged over 55 living in Sydney. This new demographic are going to require fewer bedrooms, on land demanding less maintainence.

Design Guidelines – To avoid the dreaded McMansion tag, most new homes are going to need to comply with design guidelines, which according to Landcom, positively “influence the aesthetics, functionality and environment of your new community”.
